Seven Wonders Of The World’s Finest
Could The Seven from The Boys take out the DCEU’s Justice League?
When Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson first unleashed The Boys on the comic book world, it was obvious that they wanted to examine what would happen if superheroes were self-serving bastards who didn’t care about the world. It’s a scary thought and one that has been explored before, but never as good, or as filthy, as it is in The Boys.
It’s easy to see the similarities between members of DC’s Justice League and members of The Seven, the superhero team that cares little for the public in The Boys. If the two teams met, however, could the DCEU’s Justice League take out The Seven from Amazon’s hit TV show, or would the movie versions of the DC heroes end up getting smashed?
There have been many iterations of superheroes going rogue and Justice League clones over the years in comics. The Seven, however, don’t shy away from the comparisons and actually lean into them. The most obvious comparison, and perhaps the most interesting one, is between Homelander and Superman. Plenty of stories, especially recently, look to examine what would happen if Superman went bad, but none have done it better than Homelander. In fact, Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel is actually an accidental parody of itself and its hero (mostly because Snyder is a poor writer/director), and Superman arguably ends more lives than Homelander has thus far.
The real question between these two is, of course, who would win in a fight, and while plenty of “comic purists” would have a stroke over this, the answer is simple: Homelander. Both have similar power levels and abilities, but the difference is that Homelander doesn’t give a shit. Add that to the fact that he has no weaknesses so far (as proven when Butcher put his supposed loved one in danger), all Homelander needs is a chunk of kryptonite to shove in a place that Clark wouldn’t enjoy and beat him down into submission or even death.
When it comes to a battle between the two water-based heroes, however, the result would be much different. While we haven’t seen the full extent of The Deep’s powers and abilities outside of season two’s attack on The Boys, he’s proven himself to be a bit of a goof and nothing but a pretty face to Vought. As unlikable as “dude” Aquaman and Jason Momoa’s portrayal of the character is, Arthur Curry is half a god, and his powerset, experience, and brute strength make him an easy victor over The Deep. The best that Kevin can hope for is that his face isn’t too fucked up after the fight.
The next big encounter would be between The Seven’s Queen Maeve and Diana of Themyscira, better known as Wonder Woman. Both seem equal in strength, and although it looks Maeve can’t fly, it would be a pretty close fight. However, Wonder Woman is an actual god and Maeve is just a junkie with some serious baggage. As close as a physical war this fight would be, Diana takes it but probably without suffering some major damage in the battle.
With The Seven outnumbering the film version’s Justice League, either Starlight or Stormfront could take on Cyborg but either way, Cyborg is pretty fucked in the fight. While the comic version of the former Titan has shown some impressive powers and won some tough battles, Snyder’s version didn’t really do much and his inexperience could cost him. Starlight has shown that she can do much more than just light up a room, and Stormfront, well she’s a powerhouse and the fact that Cyborg is black would just motivate the Nazi cunt even more. At the end of this fight, the girls on The Boys get it done.
In a straight-up race between the speedster of The Seven and The Fastest Man Alive of the Justice League, the result would be the same as a fight between the two: the Flash wins and hardly breaks a sweat. While the Speed Force hasn’t been thoroughly introduced, the Barry Allen of the DCEU has already crossed the Multiverse during the Arrowverse’s “Crisis”, and looks to be causing “Flashpoint” sometime soon, which means the Speed Force does exist in Snyder’s universe. For his part, A-Train is a junkie who runs fast and has a bad heart, so this one isn’t much of a contest.
The final fight, between Batman and Black Noir, could be the most interesting one. In The Boys comic, Black Noir ends up being a clone of Homelander, which means he has the same powerset and uncaring demeanor as him. As much as everyone wants to believe that Batman could beat Superman simply on the merit that he’s Batman, the truth is Superman could crush him and Homelander would do the same. However, on Amazon’s version of The Boys, it doesn’t look like they’re going that way, and if Maeve could stop Black Noir by exploiting his nut allergy, then Batman just needs a handful of Planters to take him down.
As much as The Seven are a force to be reckoned with, the experience and actual power of the Justice League might be too much for them. The extra powerful body, Stormfront, could be the difference-maker but a group of junkies would still have a hard time dealing with actual aliens, gods, and the goddamn Batman.
